Thrown Vessels

While sculptural work is where my passion lies, thrown work has become an exercise in meditation, production, and constrained simplicity. Making circles is quite enjoyable.

The thrown bud vase and bottle form have been a unique exercise in throwing practice, which spun off into the perfect fit for “test tiles”.

More recently in early 2024 I’ve found a clean functional set of shapes and finishes I am finally happy to use myself.

Unglazed dark chocolate clay on the outside, they’re like holding stone and earth.

Something that is extremely important to me is how my work feels, this goes for sculptural work too! The tactile nature of this clay world should be relayed even in its vitrified state. They want to be held.

Landing on these shapes have allowed me to focus on the aspect of finishing pieces as I push through “glaze paralysis”.

Each of these are an exploration in process. Each of these are a step in the direction of having a steady creative voice.

Thrown functional work is available in the Shop and on Commission.
